Puppy Love

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love animals and that I am just slightly obsessed with our dogs! Here is just a little about each of our fur babies.

Lady is our oldest at almost 13 and is a Pekingese/Pomeranian mix. Lady will always have a special place in my heart, not only because of her gentle manner and fun spirit, but because of the way she came into our family. I had just graduated with my associates degree and moved back home when we had to travel to Missouri for our extended family Christmas. Once we reached our destination we had to make a Walmart run in order to purchase the supplies needed for the party. As we entered the Walmart parking lot, I was immediately drawn to a small litter of puppies for sale. I somehow convinced my dad to pull over so I could "just play with them." When I entered the pin that the puppies were secured in, Lady left her litter mates and ran straight to me!! She stole my heart right then and there. After some begging and pleading, my parents gave a firm no, we could not get a puppy at this time. My mom went into the store to grab the needed items. She soon returned with my niece, whom she ran into while shopping. While still sad from not getting my puppy, my dad drove us back to the litter for my niece to see them. Needles to say, we left with a puppy and I have been the crazy dog mom ever since. Lady has been my constant companion since the day I brought her home, she has seen me through many life changes and can calm my heart during any stressful situation.

While Lady may have what I call a free spirit, Maisie is definitely our regal dog. From the very first time I watched Lady and the Tramp, I have always loved Scottish Terriers (you could also surmise I love Lady and the Tramp- that's where Lady got her name). My love for Scotties grew even more as I watched President George W. Bush with his two Scotties. Knowing my love for the breed, Matthew surprised me with Maisie for Christmas in 2014. The longest drive ever was going to pick her up, just across the Arkansas/Oklahoma border! The above picture represents Maisie's personality perfectly! She loves to cuddle, only on her terms though. We say she sits in her spot on the chair and judges us...lol She is truly the sweetest and has such a tolerant temperament as our nieces and nephews play with her.

Matthew may disagree, but I truly believe God brought Miss. Dolly to us earlier this year. I had been talking about Goldendoodles for a few years, looking at breeders and pricing them. Man were they pricey!! And it seemed the timing was never right for litters. Then late spring, early summer of this year I see a Facebook post advertising Goldendoodle puppies for sale, at a reduced price! I knew this had to be too good to be true, so I just ignored it. The next day I mentioned it to Matthew and he said no way, we have two already and that's enough. I let it go, but of course still had this nagging feeling, I really wanted that puppy! I the next day we talked about it again, and decided I would just inquire. There was no way these sweet puppies would still be available. Sure enough there where two females left and the price could not have been better-okay, maybe if they where free...haha! While making plans to get Dolly, it so happened her breeder would be driving right by my office later that week. Dolly came into our family and has completed our fur babies perfectly. She is now five months old and as you can imagine is a big ball of fur and energy! She loves running in the back yard, playing tug of war and soaking herself in any type of water she can find.

I often sit out on our patio watching our dogs chase each other around the back yard and imagine the joy of watching our child playing right along with them. I know God has a plan and his will is perfect, so we just wait and pray.

Until next time,

LeAnne

Our Journey

Last Fall Matthew and I embarked on a journey through part of the Appalachian Trail. To say I had no idea what we were in for would be a gross understatement. We definitely had some funny stores to tell when we returned from our eight mile hike. Let's just say my new motto is "There is no such thing as too much water.". I know there are avid hikers out there where this would be absolutely nothing, and we met some of them! For these novices, this hike was a test of our physical abilities, mental strength, and at times our marriage, LOL! This hike was, for me, an adventure of a life time.  Thinking back on this hike is a great metaphor for our adoption journey. As mentioned previously, I was diagnosed with Turner's Syndrome which is a chromosomal disorder in which a female is born with only one X chromosome leading to infertility, among other symptoms. Due to my diagnosis of infertility, Matthew and I knew as soon as we were married we wanted to work toward adoption on

Date Night

It's often difficult to make one-on-one time special, when you always have one-on-one time. Recently, Matthew and I decided to be intentional with date night, wanting to make them more than just a regular night eating out. Last night we were able to do something we haven't done in awhile, play mini golf! We started the night with a nice dinner down town and then went to our local mini golf for some good laughs. I am by no means good at golf or mini golf for that matter, but getting to be silly and change up our normal routine made the night extra special. We won't discuss how badly Matt beat me. During the ups and downs of our adoption journey it has been important that we lean on each other for support. Allowing the challenges to bring us closer and not further apart. We look forward to many more date nights and maybe another round or two of mini golf. Who knows, maybe next time I'll win! Love, LeAnne
